= TAB's 20th anniversary special concert series Vol.2 = The First Visit to Japan of "Pioneer of Ragtime Guitar" *Ragtime is the nostalgic and melodious piano music which was at the turn of the century in USA. David Laibman is the pioneer who tried to arrange fabulous ragtime pieces of the typical great composers such as Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph Lamb for fingerstyle acoustic guitar seriously. His arrangements were the really acheived ones as he coverted the possibility of the piano to the guitar and influenced many guitarists. Even the Father of fingerpicking Stefan Grossman is one of the guitarists who were inspired by David. He said about his first sensational meeting with David like this. "One day of 1961, David came to a guitar party. He just came back to USA from his study at the Oxford University. Then he presented his fingerpicking arrangements of Scott Joplin's 'Maple Leaf Rag' and Dallas String Band's 'Dallas Rag' and suprised all of the people there. Because no one had never seen that kind of playing." His duet album with Eric Shoenberg "The New Ragtime Guitar" (Folkways, 1970) and his solo one "Classical Ragtime Guitar" (Rounder, 1980) are still admired as historical masterpieces. Well-known Japanese fingerpicker Tokio Uchida will tour with him as a host guitarist. He is the producer of TAB Guitar School. And Celtic fingerstyle guitarist Toshihide Temma will be featured for the Osaka show (Jan. 8th) and "Ragtime Samurai" Takashi Hamada for the final Tokyo show (Jan. 10th) as a guest.
